HaSTA Ambassador Program
Tina Chan of SW King Intermediate School represented HaSTA in Nashville, Tennessee  March 23-26, 2015 for the 2016 NSTA Conference!
The Hawaiian Electric Company has announced that it will be sponsoring the HaSTA Ambassador Program for the fourth year in a row. The next HaSTA Ambassador will be announced at the 2015 Fall Conference and will be headed for Nashville, Tennessee March 31-April 3, 2016 for the NSTA National Conference. Thank you to Hawaiian Electric Company for your generous support.

The goal of the HaSTA Ambassador Program is to (re)invigorate and inspire a HaSTA member's science teaching interests and allow the Ambassador to bring back that positive energy from the national conference and share it with the rest of the membership at our annual conference.

This $2000 stipend allows for the Ambassador to "share the wealth" of professional development opportunities with many of our HaSTA members who might otherwise not be able to attend the NSTA conference.

The Hawaii Science Teachers Association (HaSTA) will be announcing the recipient of the
2016 HaSTA Ambassador Program stipend at our next annual conference. The 2016 NSTA conference will be held in
Nashville, Tennessee. Stay tuned for updates! Cost to attend the conference is free for dues-paying members of HaSTA. Dues are $10 for students and $20 for all others interested in science education. Formal and non-formal educators are welcome to register. All HaSTA members in good standing and present at the annual conference are eligible to win the $2000 stipend and become the next HaSTA Ambassador.

The inaugural year of the HaSTA Ambassador Program was at our 2012 Fall Conference. With a $2000 stipend sponsored by Hawaiian Electric Company, the recipient attended and represented HaSTA at the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) conference in San Antonio, TX in April 2013.

Ms. Barnes presented a one-hour session for HaSTA conference attendees at our upcoming HaSTA conference on September 14, 2013 entitled "Lessons from San Antonio." She has also written an article about her experience for the August 2013 edition of the HaSTA newsletter, The Catalyst.

THE FINE PRINT: The HaSTA Ambassador must 1) be present at the fall HaSTA conference to be selected, 2) be a dues-paying member of HaSTA, 3) write an article in The Catalyst about the experience at the NSTA conference, 4) present a workshop at the HaSTA fall conference following the NSTA conference, highlighting curriculum or other professional development opportunities gained, 5) share the experience with Hawaiian Electric Company. Alternates will also be selected in the event that the original HaSTA Ambassador cannot attend the conference and fulfill the responsibilities.
