Happy Birthday, Papahānaumokuākea!

One of the largest fully protected areas on the planet, the monument is home to species found nowhere else on earth, and the last and only habitat for some of the world’s most endangered species.

Papahānaumokuākea is a sacred place in the history and cosmology of Native Hawaiian people, a deep source of knowledge and spiritual inspiration. It is the only mixed - natural and cultural -  World Heritage site in the United States, inscribed for outstanding natural and cultural attributes in July 2010.

Midway Atoll National Wildlife Refuge, now home to millions of nesting seabirds, once was the site of a great battle during World War II. Surrounding waters are now the resting place for shipwrecks and submerged aircraft lost during the war years.

Management of the monument is dedicated to protection, research, science, exploration, and public education that link the past to the present, and inspire the next generation.

Mahalo for your support!
